James Ward stuns O'Connor Knights

A new ball, more goals, and team of the round Canberra City grab a point. All the ACT Men's Premier League below.

It might be Woden Valley's 20th birthday but Belconnen United celebrated by downing Woden Valley 3-1 on Saturday. No surprise there. David Leet, David Kemp and a Danny Macor last minute penalty secured the points. Tim Womack scored for Woden Valley. Happy birthday Woden!

Canberra FC pumped Queanbeyan City 7-0. A one-sided affair by all accounts.

Tuggeranong United and ANUFC, like all clubs, used the new Euro2008 ball and if the Euro's follow this 3-3 result Canberra's Joe Simunic (Croatia) and Woden Valley friend Henrik Larsson (Sweden, yes he's back) will be counting goals on both hands.

Tim Cole, Tuggers 17 year old opened the scoring, James Rendinia equalised in the last minute before half-time for ANU. Alex Tileman and Yosef Zamora made it 3-1, Tim Mathas, former ANU player pulled one back, and with 2 minutes to go Mark Shields levelled it. A cracker?

Not according to Nearpost Expert Russ Gibbs. "It was dire football, diabolical. The common consent from the players is that the new ball is all about goals. But it didn't make for a great game."

And in the surprise of the round Canberra City drew 1-1 away to O'Connor Knights. Ben Barac scored after 14 minutes for O'Connor before Leon Tarbotten equalised. James Ward in the City goal was outstanding. Canberra City will be really pleased with the point. Not so O'Connor Knights.

So a disappointing defeat, or the size of it,for Queanbeyan City, Belco,Canberra FC plough on but Canberra City grab a vital and impressive point.

Next week Canberra City have Tuggers, so is a City resurgence in the wind!

Football this week:
Inter to win in Italy.
And Nearpost Man United fan Russ Gibbs reckons it's United to win the Champions League..by a goal, then again it could be Chelsea he thinks. Nice one Russ.

Me? The big game of the week apart from Adelaide United, Matildas and Socceroos is on Friday morning Australia time.

With Rangers drawing overnight, Celtic just need to win, just a win imagine, to grab the Scottish title. Aussie Scott McDonald, go on my son you can do it!
