W-League: It is coming...honest!
W-League is coming even if things have gone a tad quiet. I'm expecting the TV Deal with the ABC to be announced next Thursday...and..
in Canberra I'm expecting the Coach to be announced next week.
There have been a number of applicants, interviews were held last week, so an announcement any day soon.
Sydney FC are starting their trials the first week of September so Canberra is hardly behind, and I've only heard of one Coach, Adelaide United's Mike Barnett been appointed so far.
Wonder if we'll see any women in the roles. I doubt if given the criteria required to be able to coach.
Interestingly the difference in Selection Criteria between Canberra United and Sydney FC was astonishing. The level of detail in the Canberra application perhaps reflecting the bureaucratic town we live in:)
And I would expect Canberra United to need to attract a few out of town players to make us competitive with Sydney and Queensland Roar FC.
That said if the local players are good enough, and many will be, it would be great to have a complete team from the Capital and the Region.
But this team is not a Federation team so positions are open to all, from anywhere.

Give the local girls a fair go!
There are 3 current Matildas, 2 current Young Matildas and 3 Australian Schoolgirls team representatives in ACTAS and you keep telling them they are not good enough.
COme on, it is about time you start supporting and promoting the local ACTAS girls.
really I'm not promoting the local girls, local players...that's a tad harsh. When did I say they weren't good enough....indeed I'd argue I'm one of the few who have publicly promoted women's football in the media in Canberra.
What other radio show gives a guaranteed 5 minutes our of 27 every week to women's football?
all I'm saying is we might get three or four imports..we might not. It's National league not a State League so if 3 or 4 come in from out of town and are better than what we have, surely that is a good think as it lifts our standard.
I think you should re-read what I wrote....a few women from out of town..out of 18 that might be 3 or 4. That gives us at least 14 from Canberra.
And if the 18 from Canberra are good enough well fantastic, you'll get no complaints from me.
If you've seen better coverage of women's football, more time given to the women of Canberra on any local radio show then I'd be delighted and surprised to think someone else is doing it better and indeed given more time to Women's football.
well said eamonn. Keep up the excellent work.Before you came along capital Football did little to promote womens football to the public. The odd article in canberra times was it. I'm hoping with the W league Westfield really promotes this comp to the huge potential audience/female football players & families.

There is no way this will compete with the likes of squads that are 70% matildas 30% the best of the YM's.
Any women's under 19 team with reasonable speed, ball-skills and average beep-test results of 11.5-12.0 should be able to beat the current Young Matildas line-up. So let's get behind our ACT girls. Let's keep the fitness high and everything has a good chance of working out well for Canberra.
