FFA fight for women's rights: Dubbo Dinosaurs re-educated?

Canberra United players Ashleigh and Nicole Sykes maybe be barred from playing in their local Dubbo/Bathurst Under 18 team in the Western District boys league...but the story has reached the FFA....

And the FFA has it seems engaged their Legal Department quicksmart.

Some members of the local association were laughing almost mocking when I rang them recently. Guess who is laughing now?

Reckon there is only one winner in this. So forget the legals and let the girls play..if others deem they are good enough, physical enough blah blah

Isn't that what ANY coach does when picking an Under 18 team? Anything else is purely discriminatory isn't it?

And while we're on it..what a way to thank two players who have by their pure talent done so much to promote the Dubbo Football District.

You'd think that Western District would be doing it's utmost to help any player male or female who has reached or the potential to reach the very top.

FOr goodness sake I am sick to death of hearing about the dubbo girls. If you are telling the local association that they have done a lot for them and they should be promoting them, then shouldn't you be doing the same for the local Canberra girls on your local CANBERRA website? There are three canberra girls at the Young Matilda's camp at the moment. How about you do as you say others should do and give them a bit of publicity and support and promote them on your website. I know for a fact that there are many canberra people sick of hearing about dubbo. Leave dubbo to dubbo and concentrate on ACT players.

I think you are mistaken.

This is a voluntary blog...in case you didn't know.

I'm not paid! Get it!
I'm not linked to any organisation..get it?

So I can write what I wish and do.

As for doing anything for the Canbera girls as you put it..i do what I can, have done a fair bit in my opinion for someone who isn't paid, doesn't get to any games and isn't linked to any organisation.

what coverage did the Canberra reps get before this blog? Well good luck promoting women's football in the future.

I do not have to promote anyone or anything..it's a blog..my blog.

Just because I'm from Canberra doesn't mean I have to write about Canberra..in fact I'll be writing less and less about Canberra, women's football in general from now on.

It's not personal.

If I don't write what you wish, about who you wish..well apologies but don't read it.

Besides the players from Dubbo play for Canberra United..or hadn't you noticed.

Eamonn my daughter was one of the local girls in the YM squad. I think you do a great job promoting all players not just local. Please don't stop supporting Women's football because of one comment, Women in sport have a hard enough time already.

Hi Eammon, Sorry that you cop it in the neck from some people. I love the blog and for what goes on with your support of womens football. In fact this is the only site that you can get up to date info on the womens game - not much if anything anywhere else. I would like to say that YES an article was written about those horried girls from Dubbo, but hey for those people out there that don't realise that this isn't about them - its about womens sport and equal opportunities for women to play sport where possible. This could quite easily be a girl in Canberra or Albury or Wagga. We should all want the best for our up and coming players who want to be the best in their chosen sport where ever they are from. Maybe some who see fit to critise should turn the tables and start championing the cause for womens football. It was interesting at the United presentation night when a sponsor offered to kick in a healthy $20K for the team again this coming season, but is also happy to put in $200K for an A league team that hasn't got the go ahead yet - is that equal?
Promote the womens game and all those involved especially as we strive to get into the womens world cup, and I hope there are a lot of ACT girls in the squads.
Regards
Derek

Excellent information. This sounds exactly like what I've been looking for.
